Friends & Families of York Village Donates Backpacks and School Materials to Rural Education Committee (R.E.C) Primary School at York Village

It was all smiles and joy for both parents /guardians, pupils and Teachers in what can easily pass off as a festive occasion. This was what the Village of York located along the Atlantic Ocean; some 20 kilometers from Freetown, the capital city of Sierra Leone looked like on Thursday 3rd October 2024. You may wonder what was the occasion? an Organization based in the diaspora, Friends and Families of York Village brought relief to both pupils and their parents by donating essential school materials in the form of Backpack or school bags containing educational materials such as books, pencils, erasers, ledgers and pens to one hundred and eighty seven pupils of the Rural Education Committee Primary school.

The handing over and distribution ceremony which took place at the forecourt of the school’s compound was witnessed by Mr. Dennis K. Harman the Liaison Officer for Friends and Families of York Village in Sierra Leone and the Headman of York Village Mr. Julrick Pratt, the Village Education Committee and other stakeholders within in the Community.

The Liaison officer Mr. Dennis Harman briefed the audience about the composition of the membership and shared the Strategic Plan of Friends and Families of York Village and its key objectives which includes Education, Health and Basic Livelihood Skills. He affirmed that the membership is keen to assist the less privileged and vulnerable people of York Village. He admonished the pupils to take their studies seriously and to handle the bags with care as the monies used to purchase these Backpacks came from donations from the membership of the Organization and that some members will be visiting York in the not-too-distant future and will like to see the bags in good shape

A pupil of Class 6 Thomas Gina Alpha gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the beneficiaries.

In the area of Health, Mr. Harman informed the gathering that a Sierra Leonean philanthropist Rev. Dr. Bill Coker and his Church in the USA has promised the people of York Village an appreciable quantity of drugs and medical equipment which hopefully will arrive by the end of the year. This donation will form part of the logistics that will be utilized during the proposed “Well Bodi“ Clinic which will be organized in April 2025. He asked the people of York to embrace this opportunity as upon the satisfactory completion of the first and second interventions, the Strategic planning Committee and the Board members study the biodata that was completed by each pupil as this might prompt the Organization to look into the area of supporting a basic livelihood skills program for the parents and guardians of the pupils.

Giving the keynote address as the Headman for York Village, Mr. Julrick Pratt showered praises to the intervention done by Friends and Families of York Village as it has supported one key area of his manifesto “Human Capital Development -Education”, He called on the Community to pray for Friends and Families of York Village for good health, prosperity and sustenance of the program. He told the excited crowd that “most of these people don’t even know York Village but from thousands of miles away, God touched their hearts to assist the people of York Village. He promised that the people of York led by him will render whatever support that is needed to ensure that the aims and objectives of Friends and Families of York Village is attained.
